SUMMER IN THE CITY

Krakow is a city that is bustling with life 24 hours a day and doesn’t take a break even during summer. It is in the summer when most cultural attractions await you in Krakow: music festivals, concerts with original settings, picnicking and sunbathing, open-air cinema…

Here are some of our suggestions for spending the summer in the city:

When the weather is good and the summer sun encourages you to leave the house, there is nothing better than relaxing by the water. Although Krakow has not yet won access to the sea (the Baltic Sea is less than 600 km away), it is proud of its renovated boulevards on the Vistula River and picturesque reservoirs. Cracovians can also enjoy the city beach! The PrzyStań na plaży is located on Kurlandzkie Boulevards (at the height of Kotlarski Bridge) and encourages not only to make babies out of sand, but also to play badminton, boules and…. archery. Those who love water sports are encouraged to go to the Bagry lake (9 km south of the city center), where you can swim, kayak or sail, or read a book on one of the city’s hammocks.

And let’s not forget about music lovers! Every year classical music lovers can count on concerts in unusual scenery – throughout the vacations the Wawel Royal Castle invites you to the Wawel at Dusk music festival. And for fans of popular and alternative music, we recommend the already iconic Krakow Live Festival and Męskie Granie.

Didn’t have time to go to the cinema during the year? No worries! From July to August you have the chance to catch up with all the films you missed. For many years Kino pod Baranami has been preparing a special summer repertoire, i.e. Letnie Tanie Kinobranie (Kino pod Baranami). If you feel like watching a movie „under a cloud”, make sure to check out the repertoire at the Agrafka cinema, which invites movie-goers to its picturesque terrace every day. An open-air cinema is also organized by the BAL club cafe in Zabłocie (next to the Schindler Factory). It’s worth showing up about 30 minutes before the screening, because there are many summer cinema fans and the number of deckchairs is limited.

During the vacations not only the cinema moves to the open air. At the Nowa Huta Reservoir, as part of the Art Boulevard festival, you can enjoy performances by the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre, artistic workshops for children and adults, an outdoor gym… And every Sunday the Reservoir hosts the Krakow Picnic, where in addition to eating a delicious (and healthy!) breakfast you can also practice yoga and tai-chi on the grass or just laze around. Good news for picnicking fans: the same initiative also takes place on Saturday in Bednarski Park in Podgórze.
