Telc exam in Polish language
The telc B1/B2 exam in Polish as a foreign language is an exam that is conducted to assess the language skills of people for whom Polish is not their native language. The telc exam is a simpler and faster option for obtaining a Polish language certificate than a state certification exam. If you are applying for a European Union Long-Term Resident Card, or need confirmation of your language skills for work or university, or are applying for a grant from the Socrates / Erasmus program, the telc exam will be an ideal solution for you.
Upcoming exam dates:
- 15.02.2025
- 17.05.2025
The telc Polish B1/B2 exam consists of two parts: written and oral.
1. The written exam lasts a total of 115 minutes and consists of four test modules:
- Listening comprehension: exam participants listen to recordings once or twice. While listening, their task is to solve tasks by marking correct answers, filling in gaps in the text or answering questions. These tasks are designed to assess listening comprehension.
- Reading comprehension: participants read a variety of texts. Their task is to read the text meticulously (whether single sentences, paragraphs or longer passages) and answer questions about each text correctly. These tasks are designed to test general and selective reading comprehension.
- Elements of language: participants must recognize and mark the correct grammatical form (using choice tasks) or create and write the correct grammatical form. The purpose of this part of the test is to test the ability to use correct grammar in practice, so the tasks often take the form of short texts that form a coherent whole.
- Writing: participants choose one of two sets of tasks and write a text according to instructions. The topics are formulated in such a way that they do not require specialized knowledge. The purpose of this segment of the exam is to test the ability to create written statements, not to test the participants’ knowledge of a specific topic.
This part of the exam verifies the skills of the examinee in the areas of listening and reading with understanding, grammar and writing in turn.
There are no breaks between the different parts of the written exam.
However, there is a break after the written part of the exam.
The student has 20 minutes to prepare for the oral part. Students are tested in pairs.
2. The oral exam lasts about 16 minutes and is conducted with the participation of two passers who complete the three parts of the module:
- Talking about experiences and expressing opinions: you should give a spontaneous statement on topics related to everyday life depicted in the photograph.
- Presentation: you must give a short presentation on one of two topics of your choice. In this part of the oral exam, you can use the questions and pictures provided on the sheet of the given task.
- Discussion: the last part of the oral exam is to express an opinion on a given topic and discuss it with the other examinee.
You must score at least 50% of the points from the entire exam to receive a certificate of proficiency in Polish. Depending on the number of points obtained from the individual parts of the exam, the candidate may obtain a certificate of Polish language proficiency at B1 or B2 level. The certificate will be ready to collect at the Varia Polish Language Center from 6 to 8 weeks after the exam.

The two-level exams assess language proficiency at B1 and B2 levels. Therefore, in all parts of the exam there are tasks at both levels of the CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (ESOKJ – European Framework of Reference for Languages). Test takers will receive a certificate of the lower or higher CEFR (EEOCJ) level.
There is no age criterion – the telc Polish language exam can be taken by adults and teenagers.
