Polish is one of the world’s 7,000 languages. It is spoken by a population of about 44 million people.
And although to many people Polish seems an extremely difficult and somewhat exotic language, the number of foreigners enrolling in Polish language courses is steadily growing.

We have been teaching Polish as a foreign language at our Varia Center for 19 years. More than 3,000 people study with us annually. We have students from every corner of the world.

Everyone has their own reason for learning Polish.

Polish family, friends, Polish partner or partner are undoubtedly the most common motivations for learning Polish for our students. However, Polish roots and feelings are not everything…

Steven from the USA is learning Polish at the Varia Center because… „it’s such an exotic language.” Maria from Ukraine would like to read Milosz in the original. Marco works in Warsaw in an Italian restaurant. He laughs that Poles are perfectly comfortable with the Italian language…spaghetti, lasagna, pizza…. Polish menu is much more complicated: sour soup, mushroom soup, red borscht 😊

Natan from the UK is just finishing a semester-long online Polish language course at our school. He is a political scientist and is teaching classes on Polish foreign policy in England. He already speaks Polish very well, but he’s not resting on his laurels and is still learning!

Is Polish a difficult language?

Polish is not one of the easiest languages…that’s for sure! With its 7 cases, declensions, conjugations, phonetic intricacies and complicated numerals, Polish can seem unlearnable 😊. However, all you need is the right motivation, an experienced teacher, a proven method and…. good environment. Then success is very easy to come by.

Polish po polsku – an effective method of learning Polish.

At Varia, we teach Polish exclusively in Polish, because this method is the most effective. It may seem like we are throwing our students in at the deep end, but this method allows them to quickly find their way in Polish reality. When we shop in a Polish store, talk to our neighbors or run errands at the office – we use the „original” Polish language. It is important, therefore, that students learn a living, practical language that will allow them to communicate quickly and freely. This method produces results surprisingly quickly, which greatly motivates our students to continue learning Polish.
